POETRY WRITING & RECITATION
Description:
A picture says a thousand words! Show us your versatility in poetry by creating and reciting something extraordinary based on a given artwork.
Rules :
- All work must be in either English or Hindi and original. No plagiarism is allowed.
- All registered participants will be added to a WhatsApp group where they will be given a picture of a renowned painting from the Renaissance period, which they will have to use as inspiration to create their poem. (The poem need not be based on the background of the painting.)
- Participants are free to use their interpretation of the picture to draft their poetry and add a title to it.
- It should not be less than a minute and not exceed 3 minutes in duration. Exceeding the given time limit will result in a reduction of the participant’s scores.
- Participants have to record themselves reciting their poetry and submit the same audio clip on the website. The audio must be clear.
- Decisions by the judges will be final.
- All files have to be named as ‘LA_EVENTNAME_PARTICIPANTNAME’ and the file size should not exceed 50MB
- Participants will be judged based on construction, originality, voice articulation, choice of words and the way they perceive the given artwork.
POETRY WRITING
Description:
“If it rhymes, it connects”.
Allow your creative side to shine while you express yourself through the words in a poem.
Rules :
- All work must be in English and original. No plagiarism is allowed.
- Participants will have to construct a sonnet strictly following the 14 lines pattern and ABAB CDCD EFEF GG rhyme scheme. (A sonnet is a 14 line poem with a rhyme scheme that must be maintained.)
- The poem does not necessarily have to be related to the fest’s theme.
- The submission has to be typed out on a word document. A font size of 12 and font Arial has to be maintained. Entries should be submitted on the website in PDF format only.
- Participants can write multiple poems, but only one will be selected (if a participant submits multiple poems, the best one will be considered).
- All poems by the participant must be added in one pdf and should be submitted only once. The poems should be titled properly and pages should be numbered accordingly.
- Participants need not write the poem in an iambic pentameter pattern.
- Decisions by the judges will be final.
- All files have to be named as ‘LA_EVENTNAME_PARTICIPANTNAME’ and the file size should not exceed 50MB.
- Participants will be judged based on construction, originality, choice of words and adherence to the rules mentioned above.
DEBATE
Description:
“Fear not those who argue, but those who dodge”.
Prepare yourself for an Oxford-style debate, where you get an opportunity to use soft words along with hard arguments.
Rules :
- This is a team event. Each team must consist of only 2 members.
- All the registered teams will be added to a WhatsApp group where the topics of debate along with position will be provided two days prior to the competition.
- There will be a proposition and an opposition team. The proposition team stands in favor of the motion/topic and the opposition team is against the motion/topic.
- A total of strictly 7 minutes will be allotted to a team.
- One participant from the proposition team gives a two-minute opening speech followed by the first participant of the opposition teams’ two-minute opening speech.
- After which the second participant of the proposition team puts forth their argument for five-minutes followed by the opposition team’s argument for fiveminutes.
- A question-answer round will then take place after both the teams are done stating their arguments. A total of 3 questions can be asked by each team. No cross-questions should be asked after a question is answered by the team.
- Participants that do not comply with the rules will be disqualified. Points will be deducted if participants speak for more than the allotted time. Decisions by the judges will be final.
- No foul language, personal comments, or use of abusive words will be accepted.
- The event will be conducted offline. Participants have to follow the Covid protocol by wearing a mask, carrying a sanitizer, vaccination certificate and also following the guidelines strictly.
- Participants will be judged based on the arguments proposed, the legitimacy of the facts stated, appropriate use of phrases and words, clarity in speech, and the rules mentioned above.
ELOCUTION
Description:
Think you have a point to make and the skills to orate? Here’s your chance. Speak on the topic you have been given for the mentioned time duration.
Rules :
- All statements must be in English.
- The speech has to be prepared based on any one of the given topics.
- The speech should not exceed 5 minutes in duration.
- The speaker is expected to memorize their speech and is not allowed to read any part of the speech from papers, notes, or cards.
- Use of index cards is allowed, but only for reference of outline and key points. Reading the whole speech from note cards is discouraged and will result in a reduction of the participants’ scores.
- You will be informed when 5 minutes are over. Exceeding the given time limit will result in a reduction of the participant’s score.
- Decisions by the judges will be final.
- The event will be conducted offline. Participants have to follow the Covid protocol by wearing a mask, carrying a sanitizer, vaccination certificate and also following the guidelines strictly.
- Participants will be judged based on originality, proper use of grammatical sentences, organization, fluency, voice modulation, and body language.

Description:
It’s time to unveil your story development skills! Tell-a-Tale is a fun storytelling game that will get your creative thoughts flowing. Create a story with your own characters and plot together as a group!
Rules :
- Each group will be provided with a word in relation to the Renaissance era, which they then have to use as inspiration to create a story.
- After receiving a prompt, one member from the first group will be given a minute to think, after which they then have to start creating a story.
- The judge will be in charge of stopping the first member of the team anywhere they wish to, the next member then has to continue the story from where the first member left off.
- After the judge cuts off the second member, the last member of the team has to conclude the story in order to make it sound meaningful.
- Decisions by the judges will be final.
- Participants can decide the order of their team themselves.
- The story should not exceed 5 minutes.
- The event will be conducted offline. Participants have to follow the Covid protocol by wearing a mask, carrying a sanitizer, vaccination certificate and also following the guidelines strictly.

character strictly from a book set in the Renaissance period. Place the characters in today’s culture and reinvent a new character sketch for it.
Rules :
- All work must be in English. No plagiarism is allowed.
- Choose any character of your choice strictly from the books/plays mentioned.
- The submission has to contain “Title of the play/book”, “Name of the character”, and how you wish to recreate/re-develop this character.
- The submission should consist of at least 2 paragraphs, each paragraph comprising seven sentences each.

- The judging criteria for this event will be based on the analysis of the case, clarity and accuracy in the report written, time taken, and adherence to the rules mentioned above

- Each team will be given a PDF containing an overview of an unsolved murder mystery.
- In the elimination round, all teams will be given 10 MCQ-based questions via a google form, about the case. Each question will have 2 points. The teams that score maximum points will qualify for the final round (in case of a tie between teams, the fastest response to give the most correct answers will be considered).
- Time Limit: 30 minutes
Finals:
- In the final round, each team will be provided with another PDF containing more details of the same case, along with everything they would need to begin their investigation. Each team will be assigned a breakout room.

- Teams should consist of 9 + 5 players (14 in total)

- The teams will have to abide by any ad-hoc changes made by the sports committee with respect to schedule, etc.

Rules :

- 9 players in one team & 2 substitutes.
- Each qualifying match will be of 4 overs, after that playoff matches will be of 5 overs.
- One bowler can bowl 2 overs and the rest are allotted a maximum of one over each.
- Batsmen to bat with at least one leg inside the no score line, only then runs will be valid.
- Batsmen will be called out if he hits the ball over the provided height at the boundaries.
- Underarm bowling is compulsory.
- Ball should be pitched beyond the no ball line, otherwise it will be called as no ball.
- Bowler has to bowl within the given box without raising his leg.
- Any deviation from the above rules will be “NO BALL”.
- Usual NO BALL and WIDE BALL will be applicable.
- Overthrow runs will be counted.
BASKETBALL BOYS & GIRLS
Rules :
- One team per Department.
- Team must contain 5 players + 3 substitutes.
- The officials will contain 1 referee and 1 time/score keeper.
- Every shot inside the arc shall be awarded 2 points.
- Every shot behind the arc shall be awarded 3 points.
- Every successful free throw shall be awarded 1 point.
- The regular playing time shall be as follows: two halves of 10 minutes playing time.
- The clock shall be stopped during dead ball situations and free throws.
- The first team which scores 30 points or more wins the game if it happens before the end of regular playing time. This rule applies to regular playing time only (not in a potential overtime).
- If the score is tied at the end of playing time, an extra period of time will be played.
- There shall be an interval of 1 min before the overtime starts. The first team to score 2 points in the overtime wins the game.
- A team shall lose the game by forfeit if at the scheduled starting time the team is not present on the playing court with 3 players ready to play.
- A team is in a penalty situation after it has committed 6 fouls. Fouls during the act of shooting inside the arc shall be awarded 1 free throw, whilst fouls during the act of shooting behind the arc shall be awarded 2 free throws.
- Fouls during the act of shooting followed by a successful field goal shall be awarded 1 additional free throw.
- Team fouls 7, 8, and 9 shall always be awarded with 2 free throws. The 10th and any subsequent team foul will be awarded with 2 free throws and ball possession. This clause is applied also to fouls during the act of shooting.
- All technical fouls will be always awarded with 1 free throw and ball possession whilst unsportsmanlike fouls will be awarded with 2 free throws and ball possession.
- The game shall continue with an exchange of the ball behind the arc at the top of the court after a technical unsportsmanlike foul.
VOLLEYBALL
Rules :
- One team per Department.

- Fixed Rotation.
- Service Rotation wise.

THROWBALL
Rules :
- One team per Department.
- Each team will consist of 7 active players and 2 substitutes.
- A match shall consist of 3 sets of 15 points each. If a team wins 2 sets, they win the match.
- The right to choose the initial order of serving, receiving and positions shall be decided by the teams and the toss winner may choose to serve or receive first or to start at a particular end.
- The ball should be caught with a firm grip.
- No twists while catching.
- Double touch is not allowed during service and throughout the rally.
- Players cannot catch the ball with the assistance of the body or legs.
- The ball should be served after the whistle and within seconds.
- The ball should be served without crossing the service line and with a single hand.
- Warning will be given per match to each team for crossing the service line while serving. After one warning, crossing the line will be considered a point for the opposite team.
- Any ball during the rally should be released within 3 seconds.
- During service, the ball cannot touch the net.
- During the rally, it will be considered.
- Players cannot touch the net during the rally.
- Players standing in the first line can jump and catch and also jump and throw. Players in the back lines can only jump and catch.
- A player cannot rotate (360 degrees) or turn around while catching or throwing the ball.
- 180 degrees rotation is permitted. If rotating, the player should throw the ball while in that position, using both the hands.
- The player should rotate back to normal position from the same direction theyrotated to 180 degrees.
- While catching or releasing, the ball should not touch any part of the body except the palm.
- Any ball falling on the sideline or end line is a good ball.
- If the ball falls below waist level, the player has to sit and catch the ball. If you sit and catch, you will have to sit and throw.

CARROM SINGLES
Rules :

- The shot must be placed close to the neck and resting on the shoulder, while keeping it in that position the entire time until it is released.

- The shot is required to land within the legal sector.
- The athlete must exit the circle from the back. If failed to do so it will be considered as a foul throw.
- The athlete must exit the circle only after the shot has landed.
- Each athlete is given 3 chances from which the top 8will be given 3 more chances.

Discus Throw
Rules :
- The discus can only be thrown by an athlete when he or she will stand inside a circle.
- During the course of the throw, the athletes are prohibited from touching the circle.
- An athlete cannot touch the ground beyond the circle.
- If the athlete leaves the circle before the landing of the disc on the ground, then it will be considered as a foul throw.
- The athlete must exit the circle from the back. If failed to do so it will be considered as a foul throw
- Each athlete is given 3 chances from which the top 8 will be given 3 more chances.
- There is a particular boundary of the landing of the disc. If the disc lands outside that zone then that throw is considered invalid.

Javelin Throw
Rules :
- The throw is made with a pulling action of the arm.
- During the throw the athlete may not touch the scratch line or the ground outside the lines or the lines which mark the runway.
- The athlete must exit behind the scratch line ONLY AFTER his throw has landed.
- The javelin must land inside the lines which mark the legal sector of the throwing area.
- The throw is only counted if the javelin leaves a mark in the ground.
- Each athlete is given 3 chances from which the top 8 will be given 3 more chances.

Rules :
- Each team consists of 10 players, 8+2.
- Only one team from each department can register
- Eight players from each team pick up each end of the rope.
- Weight category of all 10 players should not exceed- 850kgs (Boys) & 800kgs (Girls). Out of which any 8 team members can participate at a time.
- The players begin tugging the rope when the referee gives the signal.
- Each player pulls backwards as hard as they can.
- The teams continue pulling until the center of the rope (tape mark) crosses where the referee is standing.
- The game ends when the referee declares one team has successfully pulled past the center.
- Matches are often a best of three pull, the winner winning two out of three pulls.
